Workshop: Community Lantern Making Workshop - Session 2
Instructor: Gowri Savoor
Day & Time: Monday, October 21, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Price: $10
Join us for a lantern making workshop taught by experienced artist and educator Gowri Savoor. Using materials such as willow branches, tissue paper and LED lights participants will learn how to make lanterns and later can join the outdoor parade River of Lights on January 18th. In this fun and rewarding workshop students will acquire the skill to build the lanterns and will have the chance to be a part of a community engaging activity. The inspiration for the workshops and the parade is River. What does the river mean or evoke for each participant? The rivers are rich with life. Fish, frogs, otters and dragonflies are only some of the animals and insects found in and around the river’s fast-moving waters. Inspiration can also be found in the rivers’ lore from water spirits to river goddesses – let your imagination inspire you! Rivers are roads that take us places and the water of the river is life giving. Rivers need to be protected and kept clean.
All materials will be provided.
All students are encouraged to participate and display their work in the lantern parade, January 18, 4:00 PM at the Mosesian Center for the Arts.
Workshops and celebration supported by Watertown Public Arts & Culture and MCC.
